Two members of 1220 (March) Squadron Air Cadets are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime.
Cadet Sergeant Alex MacRae and Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Burnham will form part of a team of cadets and staff from across Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire who will travel 4,500 miles to Ascension Island in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The cadets will fly from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to the island, which was used by the British military during the Falklands War and is still used by the Royal Air Force and United States Air Force today.
While on the island, they will hillwalk, carry out project work with a school and support local wildlife.
Cadets will also learn more about the role of the Royal Air Force in the South Atlantic.
Cadet Sergeant Alex MacRae said “I am really looking forward to going to Ascension Island. It is a unique opportunity which is only possible through the Air Cadet Organisation.”
