AN eye witness described how he was “totally amazed” by the driver who overtook an oncoming lorry and crashed into a car at 7am today near Chatteris.

AN eye witness described how he was “totally amazed” by the driver who overtook an oncoming lorry and crashed into a car at 7am today near Chatteris.

“The driver walked free from the car but the motorist who was hit head on had to be cut free from the wreckage,” said the eye witness

He said it seemed the driver heading towards him “had obviously got frustrated sitting behind the lorry. But at that time of morning, in not good driving conditions and it still being virtually dark that was not so good”.

The eye witness said he waited 25 minutes for an ambulance to arrive and two fire engines and police also attended.

The injured motorist was later airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision on the A141 between March and Chatteris.

The collision happened at about 7am close to Curf Bridge, which crosses the Forty Foot Drain. The Peugeot that was hit entered a ditch which runs adjacent to the road while the other ended up in the middle of the road.

One driver was seriously injured and had to be cut out of his car by firefighters. He has been airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

The driver of the other vehicle- a silver Vauxhall- was not seriously injured.

A police spokesman said the road has just reopened.
