Organisers are thanking everyone involved with the festival that took place in the Cambridgeshire town on Sunday, September 9.

A spokesman said: “The sunshine and blue skies that emerged later provided a perfect backdrop to a fantastic day.”

The day started with a parade led by the Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers Marching Band followed by a horse and carriage from Broad Street.

The spokesman added: “Most of the people taking part on the day were in the parade which really helped to set the scene for a truly successful day.

“Thanks again for all those who lined the streets and cheered along the route helping to create a real carnival atmosphere as the parade made its way to the Market Square.”

The official opening was performed by the Mayor of Whittlesey Councillor Julie Windle after families and children enjoyed free face painting, puppet shows and fairground rides.

There was plenty to do for the adults with numerous stalls to visit and everyone enjoyed watching the various dance and music presentations.

“Everyone enjoyed watching the various dance and music presentations including the Rug-Cutters Lindy Hop dancers, The Solas school of Irish Dance, the Whittlesey Christian Church Dancers and the Majorette troupes together with a fitness display from Andy Harding and his group”, the spokesman added.

“Crowds were treated to additional performances from the Toy Soldiers and the Peterborough and Bedford Highland Bands together with the traditional cockney sound of the Pearly King and Queen from London, plus a World War II Spitfire flypast.”

The Church Yard Green had a music marquee and a host of activities for all ages and there was a full music programme in St Mary’s Church including choirs from local schools.

The streets were lined with over 120 vintage vehicles including motorcycles adding a touch of nostalgia to the day.

The spokesman added: “Once again a huge thank you to everyone and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s Festival on Sunday September 8 2019.”
