As part of National Civic Day the Whittlesey Mud Walls Group, invited residents to join walking tours of the town’s Mud Walls.

As a result 19 visitors with 12 steward’s present toured 15 out of a total of twenty six of the town’s mud walls.

The tours were able to include some walls not normally seen from the roadside, by permission of the householders.

The mud walls group was set up in March last year to protect the century-old walls in Whittlesey for future generations.

The historical boundary walls were created in the late 18th century and enclosed properties in the town. There were lots and lots of them, but through the years many have got knocked down because they take up so much room.

The group held its first public meeting in the car park of the Black Bull during the Whittlesey Festival last September 11 when professional restorers gave a demonstration.
