Revellers lined the streets to watch this year’s parade of floats and enjoy an array of entertainment.

It was also the first year for the Pride of the Parade segment, organised by Wisbech Round Table, where youngsters were recognised for their achievements.

The float carried nine-year-old Ella Wharf, her mum Joanne and Simon Johnson of Wisbech Round Table.

Fellow winners Gracie-Mai Clark and Lewis Shipley were unable to attend, but all three were presented with a prize of their choice to the value of £100.

This year’s theme was ‘For the love of music’ and overall parade float winners were Wisbech St Mary school.

Rose Queen Ellie Myles dazzled the crowd as she travelled through the town.

Earlier this year it was thought that a Rose Queen would no longer be crowned, but the Ladies Circle from the Round Table decided to take it over.

Jay Hubbard, chair of Wisbech Round Table who organise the parade, said: “It went really well and we had a fantastic turnout given the football too.

“The parades were sent out on time and everything went to plan.

“We had great success with the first year of our Pride of the Parade and hope that this will be something we will continue to do over the coming years as both girls and boys can get involved.

“Overall, we were really pleased with how everything went and the response we had.”

Wisbech’s horticultural and trading heritage also played a key part in celebrations.

Each of the town churches and many of the other venues, attractions and shops made special arrangements for their visitors, with each church offering stunning floral displays and refreshments.

A huge stock of plants was on sale at St Peters Church gardens alongside the popular Round Table barbecue.

A vintage lorry for the judges float was provided by Ken Thomas.

The Rose Fair began in 1963 when local rose growers sold rose buds in the Parish Church in aid of its restoration fund.

The church still uses the occasion to raise funds for the upkeep of its ancient building, but over the years, the Rose Fair has grown into a Town Festival.

Local businesses including Drake Towage Ltd, Moore Thompson, English Brothers Ltd, and Robert Goddard provided a financial donation to help with the running of the event.
