HL Hutchinson of Weasenham organised a calendar of events throughout the year including a 1000 mile bike ride between depots, selling cook books, sponsored runs and a Hadrians Wall walk.

The firm, which is the country’s leading agricultural and horticultural advice and supply company, split the money three ways between the British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute.

Each charity benefitted from cheques for £10,115.43 each - in the case of Macmillan the money can fund a nurse for almost three months.

Hutchinsons employs more than 250 staff and is the nation’s leading agricultural and horticultural advice and supply company with depots across the UK.

Mike Hutchinson, company director said: “We set out to celebrate our 75th year in style with a year of fun and challenging events and in the process raising money for good causes.

“We all had fun taking part and are very pleased to be able to support our chosen charities in the process.”

Macmillan are almost entirely funded through voluntary donations and support from companies such as H L Hutchinson are vital for the continuation and development of cancer support services within the Wisbech area and across the UK.

The number of people affected by cancer in the UK is set to double to 4 million by 2030. Wisbech and the surrounding area currently benefit from a whole range of Macmillan funded services which include Macmillan nurses in the community.

Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face and the feelings of isolation and loneliness that so many people experience make it even harder. With continued support from businesses like H L Hutchinson we can all make sure no one has to face cancer alone.
