Wisbech Grammar School pupils debate European Union at inter-schools competition

A TEAM of eight lower sixth students from Wisbech Grammar School added their voices to the discussion about the European Union when they took on 10 other schools in a debating contest.
The school’s speakers took part in a battle of ideas at the European Youth Parliament UK staged at the Cambridge Union.
Motions up for discussion included EU copyright law, the EU’s role in stem cell research and the application of western values to the Middle East and North Africa.
If that was not enough, the final debate was held in French.
Judges praised the attack speeches given by Helena Coe, 17, and Christian Alecock, 16.
History and politics teacher Amy Beck, who organised the team, said: “Despite winning its debate, the team did not progress to the next round, but the students put in a convincing performance.”
