Councillors on the Civic Amenities and Mayor’s Charity Fund Committee have recommended that £10,000 should be set aside for festivals in 2013/14.

They agreed to organise a Bring and Share Multicultural Festival in Wisbech Market Place on June 3, with a budget of £3,500.

A further £3,500 was allocated to a Wisbech Music Festival, which it is hoped would take place in Wisbech Park on a Saturday towards the end of next summer.

In conjunction with the music festival, councillors agreed to set aside £1,000 for a DJ dance event to be held at the bandstand.

Members proposed allocations of £1,000 to the Rose Fair, Christmas market and - accepting support from Wisbech Chamber of Commerce - a Christmas lights switch-on in the market place on November 29, 2013.

The Festivals Working Party will meet in the town council chamber on Monday at 6.30pm - with a 15-minute slot set aside for presentations from members of the public.

In 2012/13, Wisbech Town Council spent £11,604.29 on special events - with £1,000 contributed by Fenland District Council.

More than £5,300 was spent on the Jubilee Street Party, more than £4,200 on the Bring and Share Multicultural Festival and £1,000 each on the Rose Fair and Christmas market. There was no funding allocated to the Christmas lights switch-on.
