Two youngsters turned up to get their bikes cleaned when Chatteris fire fighters rolled up their sleeves to take part in a charity car wash.

The fund raising event was at Chatteris fire station as part of National Car Wash day which this year celebrated its 10th anniversary.

A total of £530 was raised which will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports injured and retired fire fighters.

Andy Stracey, in charge at Chatteris, said: “Two youngsters bought their bikes and paid for the wash with their pocket money.

“The community turned out in force to support us and we would like to thank everyone for being so generous. It was a very successful day.”

Last year, the Chatteris crew raised £500 by hosing down cars instead of hosing down fires for the all day event.

Chief Fire Officer Graham Stagg said: “Monies raised through national fund raising initiatives provide a real boost to The Fire Fighters Charity.

“As well as being a fun and popular event for the charity, the National Car Wash also gives our fire fighters the opportunity to share important safety messages with members of their local community.

“We are delighted that so many of our fire stations are involved.

Money helps thousands of men, women and children from the fire and rescue community during their times of need.
