BOSS Steve Appleby has promised that Wisbech Town will be attacking and adventurous as the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division promotion battle intensifies.

The Fenmen are statistically the hardest side to beat in the league - with just three losses - but seven draws have hindered their title charge.

It looked like Appleby’s troops might have to settle for just one point again on Saturday until Matt Lunn’s 96th-minute winner gave them a 1-0 win at Wivenhoe Town.

“We changed our shape to be brave and adventurous,” said Appleby. “We put Paul Cousins up front towards the end and we chased the win.

“Draws are no good to us now. We will change the way we play to match the situation. We are as attacking as we’ve ever been.”

Wisbech, who sit sixth in the league, will be without Matt Lunn for their trip to third-placed Walsham-le-Willows tonight but Neal Spafford and Callum Reed have shrugged off injuries.

They host Woodbridge Town on Saturday, when Appleby should have a full squad to pick from.

“The draws have hindered us but at the moment we’re on a bit of a roll and we just want to keep that going,” said Appleby.

“The run of games coming up are vital. If we take maximum points then winning the league can become a reality.

“Before we’ve been chasing teams who have been 10 points clear but this year we’re right in and around where we want to be.”
