Jonnie Peacock believes he is capable of setting a new world record ahead of the World Para Athletics Championships.

The 24-year-old from Doddington missed the last instalment of the competition in 2015 through injury and was forced to watch on as rival Richard Browne smashed the T44 100m record, crossing the line in 10.61 seconds in Doha.

But now Peacock is back - with a Paralympic gold medal under his belt - and is determined to recapture the world title he won in 2013 in London this weekend.

He told Press Association Sport: “It’s not an unbreakable world record. It’s one that will go at some point soon. World records are all about conditions.”

Peacock begins his quest for gold on Sunday at 7.10pm and the T44 100m final takes place at 8.50pm the same evening.

If he is victorious in the capital, Peacock will become world, European and Paralympic champion.
