A last minute strike from Ed Batt helped Wisbech win a seven goal thriller over rivals Ramgarhia 4-3 in their opening Premier A game of the season on Saturday.
They went ahead three times but were pegged back on three occasions by their stubborn opponents.
But, just when it seemed that Wisbech would have to settle for a point, Batt lashed a ball into the bottom corner to spark delirious celebrations.
The hosts began brightly, with Sam Blunt scoring from a penalty corner.
But the visitors scored from their first penalty corner to level the scores at 1-1.
Brad Apted put Wisbech back in front early in the second half, finishing low into the left hand side of the net.
The lead didn’t last for long as Ramgarhia scored from another penalty corner.
Daniel Martell reacted first when Apted’s shot was blocked to put Wisbech ahead for the third time but Ramgarhia, once again, drew level.
The game seemed destined for a draw but Apted drew a couple of players and squared to Batt, who finished with aplomb.
Wisbech travel to Harleston Magpies tomorrow in the league and entertain national league outfit St Albans on Sunday at 1pm in the National Cup.
Captain Jonathan Shippey said: “Even though the scoreline does not show it we were the better team and I always felt we were in control of the game.
“They took their two chances in the second half and their keeper made some good saves.
“For Ed (Batt) to get the winner in the last minute was some finish to the game.
“We have two hard games next weekend but we have a strong squad that is playing well so we will go into them with confidence.”
Wisbech Hockey Club would like to thank their match day sponsor, the Hare and Hounds.
