Young boxer Eryk Ciureja controversially lost in the final of the ABA Schoolboys under 32.5kg Class A Championships.

The 12 year-old Sparta March ABC boxer lost on a split decision to Patrick McEvoy, of Salisbury, in a thrilling contest in Huddersfield on Saturday.

Coach Matt Lenton said: “Eryk performed extremely well and we all thought he had done enough to win the bout. People thought it was a travesty when the result was announced.

“He is dejected but he did extremely well to get to the final and he has put Sparta ABC on the map.

“We’ve got other boys in competition soon so hopefully they can follow in his footsteps.”
