Stuart Cobb has returned to Wisbech Town after two and a half years at St Ives Town.

The 30-year-old, who can play both up front and on the wing, enjoyed seven years at the Fenmen between 2004-2011.

Joint boss Paul Cousins said: “He is a versatile player - he can play on either wing or up front. Lately, St Ives have been playing him on the wing.

“He has experience of the UCL and is a real workhorse.”

Since their FA Vase heroics against Ashington, Wisbech have endured a frustrating two weeks - their home games against Huntingdon Town in the Knock Out Cup and Harborough Town in the UCL both fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

On Saturday, weather permitting, Wisbech host fourth place Deeping Rangers, who are three places above them in the UCL.

When the sides met earlier this season, Deeping cruised to a 4-1 win, but the Fenmen will travel with a full squad and keen for revenge.

Cousins said: “We have been training hard but it has been disappointing having the games called off. We just want to get going again.

“We are definitely a more settled side than we were when the played them in Steve Appleby’s last game in charge. We’ve got a score to settle with them.

“We need to transform our FA Vase form into the UCL. It’s not good enough to do it one game in five. We need to perform every week.”
