Wisbech Town manager Dick Creasey says his side’s 4-1 loss at Thurnby Nirvana in the United Counties League on Saturday was “the worst Wisbech performance I have seen in a long time”.

Billy Smith’s goal was the only bright spot on a demoralising day for the Fenmen.

The Fenmen will need to seriously up their game if they wish to get past Suffolk side Kirkley and Pakefield, who play in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, in their FA Cup clash at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on Saturday.

Creasey said: “There are no excuses. From front to back, from the first minute to the 90th, we were awful. We were probably lucky to get away with 4-1.

“It was unacceptable. I’ve made the players aware of my feelings. I will not accept another performance like that so we must put things right straight away.

“Not taking anything away from Thurnby, who deserved to win, it was without a shadow of a doubt the worst performance I’ve seen from a Wisbech team in a long time. If we can’t produce better we have massive problems.”

Paul Cousins is suspended for Saturday’s game while Danny Beaumont is injured.

Creasey expects, otherwise, to have a full squad to choose from and says, in light of the Thurnby debacle, he will make changes.

He said: “I’ve got a big enough squad to make changes, so there will be changes. Kirkley and Pakefield are a hard side and play a lot of football.

“We are at home and we’ve got a few things to put right. We have got a hard game ahead of us and we are desperate to win.”

Creasey urged Wisbech’s loyal fans to come out and support the team on Saturday.

He said: “We need the public to come and support us. Their support, especially after a bad result, will make a big difference.”
