Jonnie Peacock is now world, European and Paralympic champion after striking gold again at the World Para Athletics Championships in London.

The 24-year-old from Doddington was forced to work for his second world gold by the USA’s Jarryd Wallace and Johannes Floors of South Africa, but held his nerve to record a time of 10.75 seconds at the London Stadium.

Expectations were high for Peacock after he recorded a personal best in the heats – 10.64 seconds, just three-hundredths of a second off the world record – but he couldn’t match that speed in the final.

“I was feeling some serious cramp in the warm-up, my hamstring gripped so much, that was why I was stretching,” he admitted.

“I was just thankful I finished the race. When it comes to the final it’s not about the times.

“I definitely could have gone faster. But at the end of the day, I came here for the world title and I’m thankful that I finished the race in one piece.”
