March came up on top against fellow high-flyers Cambridge South 5-4 in a nine goal thriller at Neale-Wade Academy.
The hosts made a bright start and Dan Shirley opening his account for season with a well struck effort.
But poor defending saw them ship two goals.
March woke up with five minutes to go before the break and scored through a Ben Sole screamer.
They struck three times after the break through Mat Bamford, Adam Graham and Jody Betts to go 5-2 up.
March tired towards the end of the match and conceded two goals but held on for the win.
But the men’s II had a day to forget, losing 8-0 to Spalding II.
Long Sutton ladies recovered from a sluggish start to beat St Neots 3-1.
They were trailing 1-0 at half time but second half strikes from Hannah Greenacre, Lisa Baker and Leanne Woodhead sealed the win.
The men suffered an agonising 4-3 loss to City of Peterborough in the HA Cup.
Nick Bailey put them ahead before Peterborough fought back to go 2-1 up.
Danny Sisson twice pulled Long Sutton level but, with five minutes left and the game poised at 3-3, Peterborough grabbed the winner.
The day before, they were thumped 7-1 by Cambridge City II.
Joshua Fyson gave Sutton the lead but Cambridge’s class prevailed.
A Ben Shore hat-trick helped the men’s II thump Cambridge South II 5-1.
Jason Mallett also scored and they benefited from an own goal.
Wisbech ladies claimed bragging rights in their derby contest with Pelicans, winning 3-1.
The Pelicans scored first but Wisbech responded with two goals from player of the match Hannah Strickle and captain Verity Allen’s strike.
They are next in action at home to St Ives on Saturday at 1pm.
