Wisbech Town joint boss Dick Creasey is so concerned about his side’s lack of games he has asked the club to arrange an extra match ahead of their FA Vase quarter final on March 8.

The Fenmen have had two matches postponed since they beat Hadleigh United 2-1 in the FA Vase 5th round on February 15.

Saturday’s clash with Wellingborough Town was rescheduled because their opponents’ had to play a re-arranged Knock Out Cup tie and last night’s home game with Deeping Rangers fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

Creasey said: “It is an absolute nightmare. We are training but it is not the same as playing matches so we can’t get into any rhythm.

“Paul (Cousins) and I thought we would have three games to work with ahead of the FA Vase game.

“We told the players we would rotate the team and everyone would get two 90 minutes to earn the shirt.

“With this being the case, we have asked the club to ask the league about giving us a fixture in midweek ahead of the FA Vase game.”

In the quarter-final, Wisbech will travel to Sholing FC after the Southampton-based club beat Larkhall Athletic 1-0 after extra time in a delayed 5th round tie.

Creasey attended the tie and says he was impressed by their upcoming opponents.

He said: “They are a very good side which looks after the ball well. We already knew because you don’t get this far in the competition if you are a bad side.

“But Ashington and Hadleigh were also good sides so we will go down there and be positive.”

Creasey says he is still on the lookout for a striker to replace Tom James, who has left the club to take up a coaching role in Australia.

He said: “We are still working on finding a replacement for Tom (James) but a lot of players at this level are cup-tied.

“We will keep looking but, if we end up not bringing someone in, it’s not a massive worry because we have good players who will fill his boots and do equally as well. We would just like to have a bit of extra competition.”

Wisbech host struggling Northampton Sileby Rangers in the UCL on Saturday.
