Wisbech Town joint boss Dick Creasey questioned the commitment of some of his players after they lost 2-0 at home to Holbeach United on Saturday.

He had set his side a target of five wins from their last five United Counties League games but they fell at the second hurdle.

Creasey said: “I don’t think it was the result, more the manner of it, that was more annoying than anything.

“In all honestly a few players answered some questions I had about them. It was very disappointing.

“I know whether we had won or lost would not have made a difference to where we finish in the league (Wisbech are 8th) but if you are going to turn up for a game you owe it to yourself and the supporters to try your hardest.

“Unfortunately I didn’t get that from certain players.”

To make matters worse, Wisbech will probably be without defender and joint boss Paul Cousins for the rest of the season after he snapped his calf in the game.

The depleted Fenmen host Northampton Sileby Rangers on Saturday then have the chance to get revenge at Holbeach on Monday.

Creasey said: “Two games in three days is going to be awfully difficult. I’m worried if the weather is good the players may want to take their wives elsewhere instead.

“We need to get through these last three games of the season then sit down as a club and discuss the future.

“Decisions need to be made which are right for the club.”
