Seven March ABC boxers were in action at their home show at The Braza Club on Friday.

It was a particularly poignant occasion for Vicky Larham, who was competing in her last bout.

Before the first bout, Patsy Smith was presented with the Club Person of the Year trophy by Sylvia Keane, of March Lions, who have also donated £250 to the club.

There was also an exhibition from seven year-old Danny Webb, who looked a natural in the ring.

The first contest saw Cole Stevens compete for the first time in three years against Martin Hamon, of Cambridge.

He understandably looked a bit rusty and Hamon won by split decision.

Next up was Nathan Smith, who showed a lot of heart in his first bout to beat Dylan Parker, of Kingfisher, by unanimous points decision.

But there was no fairytale ending for Larham, who lost by unanimous points decision to Heidi Redman, of Taymar.

In the bout of the night, Shane Jones dug deep to beat Alex Ananiui, of Heath and Reach, by unanimous decision.

As they entered the final round, the bout was in the balance, but Jones produced a grandstand finish which had the crowd on their feet and swung the contest his way.

Regan Lazenby produced a polished performance to beat Joe Jenkins, of Walsall Wood, by unanimous points decision.

Morgan Wynn started strongly against Luton’s Hassan Mehmood but his experienced opponent worked his way back in to the contest and won by split decision.

There was disappointment for Perce Baxter, who lost by unanimous decision to Max Seymore, of Holland Shore.

Trainer Dave Cole said: “Nathan Smith in his first bout did well and showed a lot of heart.

“You could see Cole Stevens had a bit of ring rust and it would have been nice for Vicky Larham to go out with a win but her opponent was a bit fitter.

“Shane Jones always gives 110 per cent and his was the bout of the night. The bout before had former England boxers in it but his contest was more entertaining.

“Reagan Lazenby gave a nice and controlled performance.

“Morgan Wynn showed a lot of heart and commitment against a far more experienced opponent, who proved to be a little bit too elusive.

“Perce Baxter had beaten that guy before but this time his opponent held himself together more and did the cleaner work.

“I’d like to thank everybody in March for supporting the boxing. They have been brilliant to us.”
