ATHLETES from three of the four nations who have chosen Hertfordshire as their London 2012 Olympic training base will be using some of the county’s facilities this month ahead of the Isle of Man 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.
The Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Partnership has attracted four National Olympic Committees to train in Hertfordshire before the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games next year.
They are St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, St Kitts & Nevis and the British Virgin Islands.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Commonwealth Youth Games Team of four are already here staying in Broxbourne Housing Association accommodation in Cheshunt and training at Wodson Park in Ware ahead of the event in the Isle of Man which runs from September 7-13.
St Lucia’s five-strong team are taking part in a five-day home-stay arranged by the Partnership and Bishop’s Stortford High School.
Finally, the British Virgin Islands Team will be visiting the village of Aston near Stevenage, which is to host the BVI Olympic team next year, on their way home from the Games on the Isle of Man on September 14.
