A hat trick from Raimondas Vinksna helped Wisbech II beat a dogged March Bears outfit 31-26 in the Jack Arch Cup on Saturday.

Raimondas Vinksna gave Wisbech the perfect start after five minutes, powering his way over to touch down. Jack Malkin added the conversion.

The hosts responded through Aaron Boxall’s penalty but Josh Anderson crashed over from the base of a ruck to make it 12-3 to Wisbech.

Boxall reduced the gap to six points with another penalty but Raimondas Vinksna then cut through March’s defence to claim his second try of the game, converted by Malkin.

March bounced back from the kick off through James Garton, who used his blistering pace to ghost through the Wisbech defence and touch down under the posts, Ben Brooks converted to make it 19-13 to Wisbech at half time.

Wisbech’s Ed Thory scored the first try of the second half for Wisbech before Brookes kicked his third penalty to make it 24-16. Vinksna’s third try, converted by Malkin, increased the visitors lead to 15 points before March’s spirited fight back.

Good interplay from forwards and backs saw Garton again outpace the Wisbech defence for his second try, with Brookes’ conversion and another penalty bringing them to within five points of the visitors.

But, despite March’s best efforts, Wisbech’s defence stood firm in what was a great advert for rugby.
