Young Sparta ABC March boxing prospect Reece Oldfield has been crowned ABA Eastern Counties under 40kg champion.

The 14 year-old upset local favourite Belly Bellfield, of Rayleigh, in a hard fought bout in Halstead on Saturday.

Oldfield was not expected to beat someone who has had more than double his number of contests but an exceptional performance saw him win by split decision.

The youngster, who has won his past five bouts, does not have much time to celebrate his success - he steps back in the ring to compete in the national ABA quarter finals in Earlsfield on Sunday.

Coach Matt Lenton said: “Reece put in an exceptional performance. Nothing surprises me about him. He has really grown in stature.”
