MARCH Town Cricket Club’s holiday hero Steve Seymour bowled his way into the record books by claiming TWO hat-tricks in consecutive league games.
"I didn’t do anything special to take the hat-tricks. I was just bowling full and straight, trying to hit the pads or the wickets."
The Australian sealed his four-week break in England by taking 5-29 - including four wickets in four balls - to inspire victory over Camden on Saturday.
The previous week he had taken 6-12, including a hat-trick, to blow away St Ives.
Chris Abbott, secretary of the Tucker Gardner Premier League for the last nine years, said: “To take two hat-tricks in consecutive weeks is an incredible achievement.
“It’s definitely not happened in my time as secretary and I would be amazed if it’s ever happened.”
Seymour, who starred as the overseas player at The Avenue in the 2008/09 seasons, has helped power March up to fourth in the league with his holiday heroics.
He took 12 wickets and scored 189 runs, including a century against Saffron Walden II, during four games for his old club.
The all-rounder said: “I didn’t do anything special to take the hat-tricks. I was just bowling full and straight, trying to hit the pads or the wickets.
“I’m proud to leave a bit of a mark on the league but I’m more pleased that I contributed towards four wins for March.

“March are a very young team and they just need a bit of confidence. Confidence is an amazing thing and hopefully they can finish off strongly.”
Seymour flew back to Melbourne this week - to the relief of the league’s batsmen. He will now begin preparations for the Australian cricket season.
“It was a great holiday,” he said. “I’ve told the club that if they pay my flights I’ll come to March on holiday every year!”
