Superhero blockbusters don’t get much bigger than ‘Infinity War’, and considering it is second most expensive movie ever made, the latest in the Avengers franchise is up there with Marvel’s best.

It was always going to be a big production; but the sheer scale of it - not to mention the roll call of megastar actors on screen as multiple Marvel universes cross over - is endlessly impressive.

Visually, the CGI animation is spot on whilst the underlying plot offers plenty of twists and turns as fighting switches from the streets of New York to Wakanda (the incredible African land brought to life earlier this year in ‘Black Panther’).

Bringing together much-loved characters from The Guardians of the Galaxy series with Marvel staples Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange all pitted against the giant villain Thanos (a merciless performance from Josh Brolin), never before have so many superheroes all fought for the same cause on one screen.

Aside from the brilliantly shot action and fight scenes (there are an awful lot), the tensions between certain characters offers plenty of sub-plots as well as regular interjections of humour; especially from Iron Man (Robert Downey Junior), Tom Holland (Spider Man) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

Despite a running time of two and a half hours, Infinity War never feels like it’s dragging or that parts could be cut out – unlike a lot of other superhero movies in the past few years.

Instead, each piece of the puzzle is built upon throughout the movie, culminating in an unbelievable final 15 minutes that is beyond unexpected.

Avengers: Infinity War is now showing at The Light Cinema in Wisbech. Visit for screening dates, times and tickets.
