Ely Cinema has just launched details of its latest season of Bolshoi Ballet live screenings.
Spartacus, one of the Bolshoi’s signature epic masterpieces, kicks off the season on Sunday October 27 at 4pm. Grigorovich’s choreography makes it one of the greatest works in the company’s repertoire and the famous Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia has long been a film and TV soundtrack favourite.
The ballet season continues on Sunday November 17 with Le Corsaire, and continues on Sunday December 22 at 4pm with Sleeping Beauty. The world famous love story of Sleeping Aurora and her prince is a wonderful ballet which will appeal to the whole family at Christmas time.
Caroline Cawley from ADeC, who run the cinema, said: “If you’ve never seen a live ballet before, this is a great introduction and at a fraction of the cost of going to see a live performance.
“Having live arts streamed into our auditorium is part of a growing trend for “event cinema” which includes the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and the Globe.
“Next year we’re hoping to bring in live rock and pop concerts and West End plays. It really is a case of watch this space.’
Bolshoi Ballet screenings next year at Ely Cinema: Jewels, January 19; Lost Illusions, February 2, The Golden Age, March 30.
