The Big Gig is coming to March as part of hundreds of music events taking place in communities across the nation in July.

The event, which is England’s largest community music festival takes place from July 11 to 13 from 6-9pm at Neale-Wade Academy.

20Twenty Productions has been awarded a grant of £400 from Superact and the Department of Communities and Local Government to organise the event which will see a variety of local acts including Misty Jones, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Christian Smith.

Afternoon workshops include song writing from 12–2pm. Followed by drumming and sound engineering workshops until 5pm.

To book go to facebook.com/OURBIGGIGMARCH.

Tickets are £3. Money raised will go to Cancer Research UK.

Launching Our Big Gig for 2014, Stephen Williams, Community Minister said: “Our Big Gig is a great opportunity for local people to take the lead in putting on a musical event that unites their local community, celebrates home grown talent and inspires people without a background in music to get involved.

“Like taking part in sport, making music has the power to transform lives and I’m really looking forward to events that inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved and make music part of their lives.”

As a part of 20Twenty productions, Shannon Barrow, 17, is the event manager for this years’ Our Big Gig in order to complete The Big Music Project and gain her gold arts award.

Shannon said: “I am very excited and I hope the town really enjoys the entertainment we are providing. We’re also happy to be supporting Cancer Research which is a recognised and credited charity close to a lot of hearts.”
