Comedian Alistair McGowan leads an established company of actors in a 100th anniversary production of George Bernard Shaw’s enduring masterpiece Pygmalion.

Pygmalion is one of theatre’s most entertaining and beguiling explorations of gender and class and is perhaps best known as the inspiration for the musical My Fair Lady.

The aristocratic and pompous Professor Henry Higgins (McGowan), made famous by Rex Harrison, makes a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering that he can transform the manners and speech of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle and pass her off as a society lady.

Packed with a host of larger than life characters including Alfred Doolittle and lovelorn Freddy Eynsford-Hill, Pygmalion remains one of Shaw’s most popular plays and a classic British drama.

BAFTA award-winning and Olivier Award nominated Alistair McGowan stars in this major new revival. Rula Lenska joins Alistair to play Mrs Higgins and Jamie Foreman will play Alfred Doolittle.

Lenska is a leading stage and television actors with appearances in all major TV series including her role as Claudia in Coronation Street.

Foreman has more than 30 film credits to his name including Layer Cake and his television credits include Derek Branning in EastEnders.

Pygmalion comes to the Arts Theatre, Cambridge, from February 26–March 8. Times vary. Tickets cost £15-£35. For more details, or to purchase tickets, call 01223 503333.
