Maplins Holiday Camp will say hello to campers later this month when The Anglian Players present the stage version of Hi-de-Hi!

The 1980s TV sitcom, written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, has been adapted for the stage by Paul Carpenter and Ian Gower.

The story, familiar to many, is set in 1950s Britain in a traditional Holiday Camp, Maplins.

Entertainments manager Jeffrey Fairbrother (played by Alan Hooks) struggles to control his team while trying to avoid the amorous advances of chief yellowcoat Gladys Pugh (played by Nicky Marsh).

Tensions between the various characters, coupled with a fair dose of slapstick, make for non-stop humour throughout the play.

Anglian Players secretary Mike Thomas said: “Several familiar faces will be ‘strutting their stuff’ in this production, as will quite a few new ones, some appearing on stage for the first time.

“The direction is in the very capable hands of Alison Fox, who has overseen the construction of an ambitious stage set, masterminded by producer Andy Towning.”

The show runs at March Community Centre on May 15-17. Performances start at 7.30pm each day.

Tickets cost £7, £6 concessions, and can be bought either at The Pet Shop, in Station Road, or at the door on the night.
