THESE young anglers were trying their luck at Metal Box's annual gala in September, 1956.

The event was organised by the sports and social club, and it included an athletics meeting, horticultural show, tug-of-war contest and a dance in the evening.

About 1,300 people visited the club's sports ground at Weasenham Lane to see the event, opened by the mayor of Wisbech, Councillor Bessie Osborn.

She described the firm as a great asset to the town.
