A MAN who served in the Army for 16 years and rose to rank of Acting Captain in the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, seeing service in France and Germany, was appointed Station Master at Wisbech St Mary in 1956.

Mr A Palmer, a married man with three children, succeeded Mr P E Shortland, who had been transferred to Wisbech North Station.

Mr Palmer, a station master since 1947, came to Wisbech St Mary from Hatfield. He joined the railway service in 1938 as a clerk at Blackwell, London. Mr Palmer was living with his family in the Station house, Wisbech St Mary.
