A TEAM of anglers from March Fire formation swept the board in a match organised by the Cambs and Isle of Ely Fire Brigade Sports Club at the Twenty Foot in October, 1966.

The March team of Ron Abbs, George Jakes, Ernie Ward and Eric Wing won the team event with a combined weight of 10lb 15-and-a-half oz.

It was the second time in seven years that a team from March carried off the top awards. The match attracted a record entry of 600 anglers from fire brigades, police and ambulance forces throughout the country.

Prizes were presented by Councillor H S Potts, of

Whittlesey, a member of the Fire Brigade Committee.

The match was in aid of the Fire Service's National Benevolent fund.
