MARCH has a beautiful river, stunning library and soil so black you can see the richness in it, but it is not the capital of the Fens.

The fens, being the county of Marshland before London-minded suits carved it up into three counties, is the greatest agricultural area in Britain.

At its centre is the rich Georgian town of Wisbech, stunted by national politics which killed the train service.

Wisbech is beautiful, historic and a major centre of trade. March town, however, is a less expensive commuter town with good access roads with aspiration of being a peer to more affluent south Cambridge towns.

Wisbech will soon lose its college through weak-willed local politics yet it has bigger supermarkets, car boot sales, stronger retail names than March.

Wisbech is the capital of the Fens. The rest are just soap box pretenders rattling envious jibes. March town should focus on its aspiration to be a major centre of affluent commuters.
