A CINEMA owner foiled raiders who broke into his home in 1967, and said it was like something out one of the films he showed.

Cecil Hart, 64-year-old proprietor of the Whittlesey Super Cinema, dashed into the street in his pyjamas after three men broke into his home in Syer's Lane.

Mr Hart said: "I have shown this sort of thing quite a few times on film, but never thought it would happen to me."

After waking up to find one of the intruders in his bedroom, he said: "What's the game?"

Although he received a painful blow to the face, he managed to dash out into the street and shout for help.

He had no money in the house because takings from the cinema were banked every night.

Our picture shows Mr Hart pointing to the broken window at his home.
