A TASTE of what life could be like with regular fitness classes was available this week - and it could pave the way for regular weekly sessions in Wisbech.
Community leaders of the Oasis Village Centre embraced the spirit of our Fit of the Fens campaign by launching a taster keep fit session on Tuesday morning.
As local residents tried out a number of exercise routines, community leaders were anxious to find out which exercises they liked best. Now, armed with the results of evaluation forms handed to participants, keep fit is set to become a weekly event after Christmas.
Tuesday's 'taster session' was organised by Cambridgeshire
Primary Care Trust in partnership with Fenland District Council's Hudson Leisure Centre, our partners in the Fit of the Fens promotion.
Each week we are featuring aspects of a healthier lifestyle as we spotlight the many initiatives that spring up across Fenland by people enthusiastic about healthier living, and getting fitter.
Katrina Maguire, a physical activity specialist, helped organise the keep fit session in Wisbech which hopes to offer a long-term, regular session of gentle exercises for older people.
Ms Maguire sets up community initiatives across Cambridgeshire and hopes that the class in Wisbech will appeal to people who will benefit from a regular, gentle routine of exercise which is designed to help a number of conditions including arthritis.
Instructors from the Hudson Centre will be on hand to guide participants through their routines. Further sessions will be available at the Hudson for those who feel they want more than a weekly work out.
The keep fit session is open to all and a small fee will be payable.
