GUESTS at last night’s Fenland Enterprise Business Awards raised 1,000 for Help for Heroes - and one lucky guest will enjoy a weekend break for two anywhere in the UK.

The gathering of sponsors, judges, finalists, dignitaries and organisers Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard all donated cash in envelopes placed on their tables during the awards night at the Braza in March.

In total, 787.40 was raised for the charity, which yesterday celebrated its third anniversary. However, that total was raised to 1,000 after Councillor Alan Melton, Leader of Fenland District Council, told guests he would donate the difference from the Leader’s Budget.

All the envelopes were placed in a hat and Debbie Smith, of March, who has run half-marathons for the charity, picked the winner of the weekend break, courtesy of the Cambs Times/Wisbech Standard.

It was won by David Oliver, the husband of the Chairman of Cambridgeshire County Council, Councillor Linda Oliver.
