The Fenland Big Weekender is now just a month away – and here’s a quick list of things that will help you decide whether to come for one, two or three days!

All of the weekend takes place in two huge marquees being put up next to Audmoor House within the grounds of The Oliver Cromwell Hotel.

On Friday July 15 the weekend kicks off in style with live music from the 60s tribute band The 6Ts. Tickets now on sale at £20 (discounts for group) and includes a welcoming drink and a two course supper.

Those attending the Friday night opening concert can come in 60s outfits – not compulsory of course but prizes for the best

Saturday, July 16, has a mass of entertainment throughout the day including an indoor crafts and gifts fair with numerous stalls to tempt you

On stage during the day there will be different activities – including a baby competition with some super prizes to be won. Watch for details coming soon about how to enter.

The 3-day event is being organised by a small group of enthusiasts including Market Place – part of Creative People and Places, an arts engagement programme developed by Arts Council England with support from National Lottery funds.

Saturday, too, is a showcase day for local and regional talent – culminating in the evening with special performances and, again, more music. We’re calling it the Cabaret Club – for one night only.

Punch and Judy is one of the attractions for Saturday

The Fenland BIG Weekender will take you down memory lane to March during the 1960 – bringing the past to life through memories, photographs and films

If you have any photographs or film footage of March during the 1960s, Market Place would love to hear from you. Please contact Katherine Nightingale on 01354 652769

Sunday, July 17, is Big Screen Film Day – in the afternoon we’re showing two films on a big screen in the marquee.

Chitty Chitty Bang is our 2pm offering followed at 5pm with The Italian Job. You can get tickets for the shows from Greetings, Panini’s and the Oliver Cromwell Hotel.

Indeed tickets for the Friday evening opening concert can also be obtained for these three venues.

The Cambs Times is producing a complimentary special magazine celebrating and previewing the Fenland BIG Weekender. Copies will be available in early July.
