FENMARC Produce, a dedicated supplier of prepared and fresh
vegetables and potatoes to Asda, held a potato varieties day, showing many different varieties, including organic.
Colleagues from Fenmarc, Agrimarc, its key growers, seed supply partners and Asda gathered at Stocking Drove, Chatteris, to view the 2007 potato variety trials.
The crops were grown on different farms showing how various varieties react to different growing conditions.
Potato tasting took place throughout the day which ended with a barbecue.
Mark Taylor (managing director Agrimarc, Fenmarc's agricultural business), said: "We have seen some great new potential varieties and development opportunities for the future. Getting our whole supply chain together from seed supply to customer enables us to consider all aspects of bringing new material to the market and share in the decision process.
"We have some exciting opportunities to follow up and the next stage is to take the learning from the trial plots into commercial production."
