Residents in Chatteris have demonstrated their commitment to the town and environment by forming one of the first public Street Pride groups.
The Street Pride scheme, which was piloted with Fenland Council staff and has now been extended to five communities, has proved to be a successful formula for galvanising residents to come together with the council to improve their neighbourhood.
The Chatteris Street Pride group has a range of improvements to do, including litter picks, planting additional flowers, creation of a wildlife area or simply reporting environmental problems using new reporting mechanisms.
At the end of the pilot scheme, the pilot communities will benefit from an improved local environment and will receive a certificate, wall plaque and a cash reward from the council, to be spent on other environmental projects.
The Chatteris Street Pride group is made up of residents and members of community organisations. It has close ties with the Chatteris Town In Bloom team.
