A NEW way of making school meals healthier in the Fens has been launched by Cambridgeshire County Council.
A My School Lunch website was launched yesterday, packed full of information about school meals, food and nutrition and has been specifically designed for children, parents and teachers.
Children can visit the funfair of games to help them learn about healthy eating and leading an active lifestyle. They are designed for Key Stages 1 and 2 (ages five-11) so children can try new levels to keep them entertained whilst they are learning.
There are also activity sheets and competitions and the children can become members of the five-a-day club, which is full of information and news about healthy eating.
Parents can find out what's on the menu and what's happening in school meals in the parents' section of the website.
They can also tell the council what they think of school meals by completing the online questionnaire and contact them via the website if they have any questions, comments or ideas.
Hilary Witt, head of Cambridgeshire County Council's catering and cleaning services, said: "Our new website aims to educate children about healthy eating and show them that school meals are fun and enjoyable.
"The health of the children in the county is our top priority. By working with teachers, parents and children we will help combat the negative perceptions of school meals and the increasing problem of childhood obesity."
