THE Cambridgeshire Regiment Association plans to host a special Commemoration Day at Ely on Saturday, October 14.

It is also arranging a trip on Friday, September 1 for a service at the site of the Redoubt in France. The party will return via Ypres, in Belgium, to attend The Last Post service at Menin Gate.

Freddie Grounds, president of the Cambridgeshire Regiment Association, hopes the party will include a detachment from the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment - that detachment from D Company which was originally part of the Cambridgeshires' old rifle regiment.

The association intends to contact descendants of the Cambridgeshires who took part in the capture of the Redoubt and invite them to the Commemoration Day service at Ely Cathedral, followed by a presentation with pictures and video. This will take place at the Hayward Theatre. All regiment members are welcome to attend.

To register interest in either the Commemoration Day or the trip to the battlefield, or if you think you have relatives who took part in the Schwaben assault, contact Martin Boswell, at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, CB2 4QR, or by e-mail at mboswell@iwm.org.uk
