UNFORTUNATELY I wasn't able to attend the meeting last Wednesday of the East Cambs and Fenland PCT at March Library - embarrassing really, considering I've been badgering them to hold a meeting in March!
If I had been there I would have asked them if they were likely to reconsider their draconian 'no smoking' ban on all NHS properties in the light of the stabbing to death of that NHS worker who was forced to leave not only the hospital premises where she worked but also the grounds, in order to have a 'smoke break'. She thereby put herself in an extremely vulnerable position early in the morning.
Smoking is not yet illegal in this country and I would have thought the NHS has a duty of care towards all its employees regardless of whether they are smokers or not.
I'm a non smoker incidentally, since I retired 10 years ago but these no smoking zealots who use so called passive smoking as a means to infringe on people's civil liberties get up my nose far more than smoke does!
