TWELVE members of Peterborough CAMRA Club visited Elgood's Brewery on Friday to help produce a special beer for the forthcoming Peterborough Beer Festival.
A brew of Old Flat Cap Bitter was produced in memory of Alan Ovenall, long standing Peterborough CAMRA member and good friend of Elgood's. Mr Ovenall, never to be seen without his flat cap, died this year.
An Elgood's spokesman said: "A life-long aficionado of cask ales, Alan would have enjoyed his own brew and Elgood's are delighted and privileged to be commissioned to brew the beer. It is the first time that our brewer has worn a flat cap to mash in."
The beer, for which the recipe was devised by head brewer Alan Pateman, along with the beer festival team, is a pale traditional bitter. It will be available at the festival, taking place at Peterborough Embankment from next Tuesday to Sunday. Remaining casks will be sold to selected Elgood's tenanted pubs and to free trade pubs in the Wisbech and Peterborough area, as well as some in Norfolk and Suffolk.
