A WOMAN who has lived on the Forty Foot Bank for 36 years thinks the idea of closing it to through traffic is stupid and doomed to failure.

Ada Granger, 79, of Bank Farm said: "There is nothing wrong with the road. It is the way motorists drive along here.

"We have seen a lot of accidents in our time but I think it is a stupid idea to try to make people go out of their way to travel to Peterborough."

Mrs Granger said she could not comment on the most recent accidents but had witnessed vehicles being driven at 90mph as they overtook other cars on the road beside the deep drain.
