Whittlesey Manor Bowls Club marked the opening of their green for the new season by presenting a £760 cheque to Magpas..
The charity cheque was the result of last year’s Peter Bavister memorial charity triples tournament.
It means the club have now raised in excess of £3,000 for the medical charity from this event over the past four years.
Magpas representative Phil Hayes received the cheque from Peter Bavister’s widow Margaret, who was accompanied by her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Martin Welsford.
The club provides competitive, league and social bowls for players of all ages and abilities.
It was officially established in 1962, a year after the bowling green at the town’s Manor Field, now known as the Manor Leisure Centre, was opened.
An equipment shed close to the green was used as changing rooms for the club until 1981 when the club funded and constructed a brick-built clubhouse which was extended in 2001 to incorporate a new bar and fully-fitted kichen, funded by the club with the aid of a £20,000 grant from the then English Bowling Association.
