A cyclist had his helmet to thank after he escaped a collision with a car with no injuries.
The cyclist’s helmet luckily bore the brunt of the accident which took place in March yesterday.
Cambridgeshire constabulary tweeted a police of the damaged helmet, saying: “The cyclist was saved from a serious head injury by his helmet.”
The Royal Society of the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) reported that in 2014, 40 per cent of all injuries sustained by cyclists were to the head, and Consumer Reports have found that 87 per cent of cyclists killed in accidents in the last 20 years were not wearing helmets.
While wearing a helmet is not required by law, the Highway Code suggests that cyclists should wear a cycle helmet “which conforms to current regulations, is the correct size and securely fastened.”
