A March postman is trekking 62 miles along coastal pathways to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

It will be the fifth mega walk undertaken by Nick Winterton who said every step of the undulating coastline would be worth it to bring in funds for the world class children’s hospital.

Nick said: “Being a March man hills are not really my strong point as you can imagine, but I’m really looking forward to it.

“This year’s South Coast trek from Eastbourne to Arundel is another one from the action challenge series, they are well known for organising some of the hardest events in the UK.

“People talk all the time about community spirit being dead, but the warmth and generosity I’ve seen over the years shows its still out there which is great and I can’t thank everybody enough.”

Nick’s charity walking journey began in 2009 when he watched Eddie Izzard complete 43 marathons in 51 days in a TV series.

He was so inspired that in the next three years he and workmate Tony Cliss conquered walks along the North Norfolk Coast ,Hadrian’s Wall and Dorset’s Jurassic Coast raising £2,000 for Barnardo’s and around £3,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

He said: “We met some fantastic people but the ultimate highlight was being invited to Great Ormond Street to visit a ward, chat to nurses and see the improvements being made with all the money raised.

“As a father of two children I found it a very emotional experience to see parents sitting at the bedside of their pride and joy.

“That was the moment I decided that I would always try to raise money for them.

“The harsh reality is life or death for many of the children without the specialist treatment or equipment that fund raising brings.

“Having a child with any kind of health issues can be an emotional, stressful and lonely time for families and it’s great to be in a position to make a difference to someone’s life.”
