A group of actors took their play to various venues in March on Saturday.
The March Mummers started with a visit to St Peter’s Church Hall for the Christmas Tree Festival coffee morning.
This was followed by the Friends of March Library coffee morning and visits to Georges, The Acre, Ye Olde Griffin and The Ship.
The group was made up of Marcus Phillips (as King George), Rodney Crabb (Beelzebub), Stuart Broad (The Doctor), Malcolm Busby (The Fool), Mike Thomas (Jim Jack) and Steve Cornell (Dame Jane).
They were accompanied by Maureen James (prompt), musicians, Keith and Karen Cheale and collectors Kathy Cornell, Lizzie Owen and Christine Crabb.
Their efforts raised £226 for Eddie’s, which supports people with learning difficulties.
Margaret Oatey, Director of Eddie’s Trust, was delighted with the amount collected.
“It will make such a difference to our Befriending Scheme,” she said.
Mummers’ plays were once a common feature in rural areas at Christmas time.
The performers, who were often plough boys, entertained audiences in pubs and big houses, as a way of gaining food, money or drink for the festive season.
