IT was September 1959 when Billy Pope bumped into his future wife Jennifer on the roundabout at March Fair. This week, the two Manea residents are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary after fifty years of marriage.
Jennifer, 71, married Billy, 80, in December 1960 after a whirlwind romance. The happy couple moved to Manea soon afterwards, where Billy worked as a gardener and Jennifer worked in a factory.
“We went on the roundabout together and we have been together ever since,” said Jennifer. “We never row or anything like that. We have always got on really well.”
The couple will celebrate their anniversary with a meal out on Friday. Jennifer said: “I’m not expecting a present but I might have a surprise one I don’t know.
“I’m very proud to have got to 50 years. We are going to stay in Manea and continue to enjoy retired life.”
