TRAFFIC came to a standstill and passers-by lined the streets as the Last Post sounded in March to remember the fallen.
At the 11th hour today silence fell over the town centre for two minutes as respects were paid to those who lost their lives in wars since the First World War.
A procession led by the Mayor of March, Councillor Andrew Pugh, and March town councillors made its way to the War Memorial shortly before 11am.
As the Last Post played and the Royal British Legion’s standards were lowered, March Town Clock chimed and motorists switched off their engines to pay their respects.
Today’s silences across Fenland were the first of many Acts of Remembrance taking place over the next few days. Towns and villages will stage their own Acts, with many also holding Services.
